Trade War with China Looks set to Escalate -3

The trade war with China has taken a turn for the worse, with Trump threatening much harsher measures and saying there is no reason for him to talk with Xi.  He is also quoted as saying:
This was a real surprise, not only to me, but to all the Leaders of the Free World.
It's no surprise to this service, which noted when the EU Trade deal was cut that China and America had far more balanced negotiating positions.  Trump seems outplayed here in that China has timed its moves quite well to reverse the positive press that administration relies upon.  Still, even though American market indexes are tanking, the currency response is fairly muted so far.
